Avalon, Catalina - It seems that the long ferry ride to Catalina Island had no effect whatsoever on at least the Geffen Academy JV Bruins, as they pummeled the Avalon Lancers in the first game of a triple-header between the different teams of each school. Veteran guard Andrew DeUgarte propelled the Bruins to victory, contributing on more than half of the teams made field goals with 25 points and 5 assists. Freshman Joesph (Lincoln) Bang and Matthew Yoon added another 21 collectively.
It was clear from the opening tip that Geffen came out with a fire in their hearts. "I was definitely trying to be more aggressive and get some points up from the get-go as well as
contributing to my team," player of the game DeUgarte said in a postgame interview.
DeUgarte added that the Bruins were "never trying to take their foot off the gas pedal" throughout the course of the game. The statement certainly does justice, as Geffen Academy pushed the weary Lancers to the brink. The whole team contributed, as each player who saw the floor recorded at least two points, one rebound, and one assist. Just another example of what the team can do when they work together.
