In 2022 and 2023, the Bruins (Girls) were challenged in their league games. Sure, they always finished near the top of the league, but there were more competitive games on their schedule. This year, however, the Bruins are simply steamrolling their opponents night in and night out. Save for a low-scoring win over Wiseburn Da-Vinci last Saturday, Geffen Academy has dominated all season long. Including their 30-point victory yesterday, it's an astounding +242 point differential for the Bruins, in just seven games.

Monday night's victory over the California Academy of Math and Sciences was no different. The Bruins built such a commanding lead in the first quarter that they were able to take their foot off the gas for the rest of the game. Senior Forward Ciahna McNairy eclipsed her 1000th career point in her career two minutes into the game and finished with 26 points and 14 rebounds. Maddie Sugimoto knocked down five three-pointers, who was hotter than fish grease towards the end of the third quarter, and Mion Kamiya put up 11 points and 11 rebounds. Every single player on the roster either scored, or had multiple rebounds and assists.

Interestingly enough, the Bruins have a lot of similarities to their male counterparts. Both teams have two of their best three players graduating this year. Both teams have struggled to oust Rolling Hills Preparatory as the top dog in the division. And the level of success this year, for both teams, will be measured on their performance in the playoffs. The girls team is going to have an easier road, against opponents with lesses resumés and a preferable location to start, while the boys team will likely be forced to head out and play a team they've never heard of a two-hour bus drive from Kinross Avenue. For the girls, however, it's another win to boost their confidence going into what will most likely be a game for the league title a week from today on senior night.
