Bruins (Boys) Bounce Back From Losses, Trounce New Roads Jaguars 89-39

It's been a rollercoaster of a season for the Bruins. They lost their first three games at the De Toledo Invitational Tournament. They won their next seven games. Then, they suffered back-to-back losses against Vistamar and CAMS. And now, it appears, Geffen Academy is back to their winning ways, with a fifty-point drubbing over the shorthanded New Roads Jaguars on Wednesday Night at Memorial Park. In fact, the game was so out of hand, Junior Forward Camron Desai was seen reading Jim Murphy's, "Inner Excellence" on the sidelines, preparing his mind so he could be ready to make the most of his chances on the court.

Led by their newly-cemented "Big 3" of Nathan Muhumuza, Stevan Markovic, and Jordy Ohebsion, the Bruins led the Jaguars from start to finish. New Roads has struggled all season long following the departure of their beloved superstar guard Cy Arato-Orlovski to Brown University last year. Although the Jaguars managed to hang around for the first quarter, it was clear that the Bruins were the better team, and they quickly pulled away after Geffen Academy's starting unit returned to the floor. Time is a panacea, and for Stevan Markovic, his shooting demons have finally been vanquished. After scoring in the teens for each of his last three games on poor shooting splits, the junior guard notched twenty one first-half points and finished with a game-high 27. Muhumuza had one of his better all-around games of the year, ending the game with 21 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 steals. Jordy Ohebsion finished his fourth straight game in double figures with 18, capped off with this running buzzer-beating three-pointer to end the third quarter:

The Bruins have two more games left in their season, when they play both Wildwood and Rolling Hills Preparatory at UCLA's Student Activity Center next week. The latter contest, Geffen Academy's Senior Night, won't be a game for the CIF-SS League Championship as the Bruins would have hoped it to be just one week ago. Instead, it'll likely be a barometer for their ability to compete against top rosters, as they'll be forced to beat great teams after great teams if they have hopes of winning a state championship next month. You know I'll be here to cover it.
